At Puttin on the Pink, we believe every survivor has a story worth sharing. These stories remind us that courage comes in many forms and that hope can shine even through life's greatest challenges.
As we celebrate Cancer Survivors Month, we are proud to recognize survivors whose journeys inspire hope throughout our community.
This month's Survivor Spotlight honors Lori Anderson, whose courage, determination, and positive spirit continue to inspire everyone around her.
Born in Indiana, Lori joined the military as a teenager, beginning a life dedicated to courage, service, and determination. She later made Florida her home, where she raised her family and built a life centered around love, perseverance, and purpose.
A Life Built on Service and Strength
Throughout her life, Lori has never backed down from a challenge. Her strength has carried her through obstacles that would have discouraged many others, yet she continues to face each day with determination, humor, and grace.
Over the years, Lori has endured numerous back surgeries, lives with MS and necrosis, survived the loss of her family home during Hurricane Ivan, rebuilt after devastating loss, and experienced the passing of her beloved husband.
In January 2026, Lori faced another life-changing challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Just weeks later, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy.
Most people would understand if Lori felt defeated.
But that simply isn't who she is.
Her "Convertible" Perspective
If you know Lori, you know she has a remarkable sense of humor.
She affectionately refers to her wheelchair as her "convertible."
That one word perfectly captures her outlook on life.
Rather than focusing on limitations, Lori chooses to focus on possibilities. She believes every challenge presents an opportunity to learn, grow, and help someone else along the way.
Family Is Her Greatest Pride
Lori is the proud mother of three children and grandmother to beautiful grandchildren.
Her daughter is a retired Navy veteran who now serves others as a nurse. Her oldest son owns a successful remodeling company, while her middle son uses his artistic talents to help breast cancer survivors through restorative tattoo work.
Family has always been one of Lori's greatest blessings and sources of strength. Through every challenge she has faced, the love and support of her family have remained by her side.
Choosing Hope Every Day
What makes Lori extraordinary is not simply what she has endured, but how she chooses to respond.
Her philosophy is simple:
"If you can't change it, make the best of it. Make it work."
She believes every challenge teaches a lesson and creates an opportunity to help someone else.
One of Lori's favorite sayings is:
"You can choose to wallow in it, or you can decide you're going to kick ass and win."
And that is exactly how she lives her life.
Survivor Spotlight: Celebrating a True Survivor
Through every setback, every storm, every loss, and every diagnosis, Lori has chosen hope over fear, gratitude over bitterness, and strength over surrender.
At Puttin on the Pink, we are honored to celebrate Lori Anderson—a survivor, mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend whose positive spirit reminds us all that courage is not the absence of adversity. Courage is choosing to move forward despite it.
